Roundin’ Up The Raves: Britti, Sheer Mag, Dylan John Thomas

My cup runneth over — and so does my turntable! Just as crops have good and bad years, so too does music. Last year was the equivalent of a blizzard blowing through Florida orange groves, but this year we’ve got bright sunshine and a bumper crop. The pickings are good.

Ready for some fresh-squeezed juice? Let’s round ’em up.

Britti — Hello, I’m Britti

And what a way to introduce yourself. Britti puts her own stamp on producer Dan Auerbach’s always stellar retro country-soul-pop production. She has a way with an emotional ballad, but she can belt over some Stax horns, too. Time to say hello.

Sheer Mag — Playing Favorites

70’s hard rock and power pop hooks, a few licks inspired by Thin Lizzy and Allman Brothers, a little doo wop, and a soupcon of Television in the backing vocals — this album touches on everything. Sheer Mag always make good albums and this may be — scratch that — this is their best yet.

Dylan John Thomas — Dylan John Thomas

A troubadour with a Scottish brogue and an acoustic guitar who occasionally throws in 2-Tone ska or some 80s synths and drums to keep you on your toes.
