Hey, What’s That Song? “Tired Of Toein’ The Line” by Rocky Burnette

One year ago this week I revived this little electrical magazine after one of my occasional hiatuses.

Okay, it wasn’t so much of a hiatus at the time — more of a retirement — but it turned out I was simply burned out, and after a few years of rest, relaxation, and the application of copious unguents, the flame slowly rekindled. The first song I wrote about upon returning was “Honey Hush” by Johnny Burnette. That song came out in 1956, and 24 years later his son, Rocky, hit the US Top 10 in 1980.

Like his dad, Rocky played the rockabilly, a genre just about to enjoy a revival in popularity during the early 80’s. Unfortunately, Rocky was never able to capitalize on his success and, unlike his dad, goes down in pop history as a one-hit wonder. But it’s a fun little wonder.

There’s still another Burnette in the family with hit records so check back this time next year. That gives me another year after that to comb the family tree and find more of them.

In the meantime, turn it up! Cross the line.

  1. Happy return-iversary! My weeks wouldn’t be the same without your electrical magazine. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the next Burnette appearance.
