Roundin’ Up The Raves: Brandi Carlile, U.S. Girls, Afterpartees, I’m With Her

Quality music is coming out fast and furious here in 2018 – even faster than the Fast & Furious franchise fabricates five further sequels. I know! That’s “approaching the speed of light” fast! As usual, some albums might be in danger of flying right by. Maybe we can slow them down long enough to give them a listen.

Let’s round ’em up.

Brandi Carlile – By The Way, I Forgive You

Brandi could sing the instruction manual for an IKEA Liatorp bookcase and it would still induce goosebumps. Hope you’re not allergic to goose, because you’re about to get them bumps.

U.S. Girls – In “A Poem Unlimited”

Mixing up the medicine with a melange of late 70’s/early 80’s art pop, R&B, and disco pop, U.S. Girls release an album of shadows crossing under midnight streetlights.

Afterpartees – Life Is Easy

If The Shins were more power-pop than indie-rock, you might get Afterpartees, who, I was surprised to learn, are from the Netherlands, despite the fact that one of their videos appears to have been shot in a Kansas cornfield.

I’m With Her – See You Around

If stunning 3-part harmonies could murder you with their beauty, I’m With Her would be a straight up serial killer. Contemporary folk at its finest.
