Roundin’ Up The Raves: Dua Lipa, Catholic Action, Devon Gilfillian, Aubrie Sellers, Yacht Rock Revue

My resolution for the upcoming week is to stop watching Netflix documentaries. I simply have to keep telling myself, “Be strong. Be strong.”

Let’s round ’em up.

Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia

Like a funky, disco-fied, 20-something Lady Gaga from the UK.

Catholic Action – Celebrated By Strangers

An indie-rock band from Glasgow who enjoy unusual sounds and textures, the guitar harmonies of Thin Lizzy, and cool guitar solos in general.

Devon Gilfillian – Black Hole Rainbow

Gilfillian combines contemporary R&B with retro-soul. Many singers can only do one or the other, but here, it all sounds good. All of it.

Aubrie Sellers – Far From Home

Sellers continues to make stellar “country” music, but like Miranda Lambert, she’s not afraid to mess around with the formula.

Yacht Rock Revue – HOT DADS in TIGHT JEANS

If you took a little Vulfpeck, a little ELO in the 80’s, a little disco sauce, and a healthy dose of yacht rock of course, then threw them all in a blender, hit the frappé button, and took the top off the blender while it was still running …. you might end up with this record.
