Roundin’ Up The Raves: Hollow Ship, Childish Gambino, Echosmith, Pokey LaFarge, Halloweens

Looking for something to do? Turn up the volume and see what happens.

Let’s round ’em up.

Hollow Ship – Future Remains

If you love guitars, you will love this album. Hollow Ship play chords, they play leads, they play heavy riffs, they play funk rhythms, they play crunchy rock, they play spaced out echoes — you name it, the guitars play it.

Childish Gambino – 3.15.20

Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) dropped this album so quietly and unexpectedly last month that I completely forgot to throw it on here. Experimental R&B that blows up the past and the present to create the future.

Echosmith – Lonely Generation

Everyone needs a great pop record mixed in with their psych-rock guitars and alternative R&B. Let Echosmith work their catchy 80’s-inspired magic.

Pokey LaFarge – Rock Bottom Rhapsody

The sound of the early 60’s mixed with pre-growl Tom Waits. Pokey has a darkly comic sense of humor but is clearly a hopeless romantic, as well.

Halloweens – Morning Kiss At The Acropolis

I love side projects where the point is to loosen up and have fun. Two members of UK indie rockers The Vaccines made a record that sounds a bit like Pulp, Edwyn Collins, and 10cc.
