Roundin’ Up The Raves: Brett Newski, Brandy Clark, dvsn, Kvelertak, Extraa

Many artists have postponed their spring releases, but luckily there are still albums out wandering the lonesome prairies.

So let’s do what we always do. Let’s round ’em up.

Brett Newski – Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down

Kind of like Tom Petty as the lead singer of Spoon.

Brandy Clark – Your Life Is A Record

One of the finest songwriters in country music has made her least countryish album. And it’s still great. She could write and record an album of Tuvan throat-singing songs and it would be great.

dvsn – A Muse In Her Feelings

Anyone who misses the slow jam sounds of the late 80’s and early 90’s will find plenty to enjoy here.

Kvelertak – Splid

If metal is a lion, and hard rock is a tiger, then Kvelertak is a liger. As you might expect, glorious guitar everywhere. The lead singer also enjoys screaming in Norwegian, so be prepared for that.

[I’m starting you off gently — the first song here is the poppiest on the album. If you ever wanted to know what The Police would have sounded like as a metal band, here’s your answer.]

Extraa – Baked

Sunshine psych-pop and The Beatles meet up for drinks in Paris.
