Usually when there’s not much information on a song I’ll try to hold off on writing about it until I can think of an angle. But sometimes I can’t even find an angle using a protractor and a sliding T-bevel.
Sometimes I just have to give you whatever I’ve got. Here’s what I’ve got:
Gaitley & Fitzgerald were an American duo who released one single in February of 1967 on Bornwin Records. Bornwin? No other records ever appeared on that label.
The two songs on the single were co-produced by Robert John, a singer who scored two big hits in the 70s with “Sad Eyes” and a cover of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” His occasional songwriting partner over the years was named Michael Gately, so presumably that’s who we’ve got in this duo (Michael may have opted for a different spelling of his last name to avoid conflict with the Philadelphia furniture chain Gately & Fitzgerald).
As for Fitzgerald? Can’t even locate a first name.
The songwriter of “Seance Day”? One C. Horning, Jr.? Apparently never again wrote another song (at least not under that name).
So here’s the one documented piece of evidence that Gaitley & Fitzgerald ever existed, a fun and spooky little ditty that wouldn’t have sounded out of place in a Scooby Doo cartoon:

Scooby Doo! That gave me a laugh. Absolutely true.
